UMVA has learned that a devastating fire tore through a Utah apartment complex in the early morning hours of June 7, leaving a trail of destruction and sending eight officers to the hospital for smoke inhalation.
Panic-stricken residents were awoken by officers from the St. George Police Department, who urgently alerted them to the inferno engulfing their homes. Bodycam footage reveals the chaotic scene, with one officer bursting into an apartment, shouting, "Hey, you guys, your unit's on fire, you need to get out!" as the sleeping family scrambles to respond.
In a heart-stopping moment, an officer is seen physically guiding a shirtless resident to safety, yelling, "Run, run!" as the air fills with the acrid smell of smoke and flames. The footage also shows officers using a ladder to rescue a man trapped in a second-floor apartment, with one officer yelling, "There's one more guy up there!"
As the evacuation unfolds, officers encounter a sleeping resident who fails to respond to their warnings. The officer shines a flashlight on the resident's face, shouting, "Hey, building's on fire, you gotta get out!" The resident suddenly wakes up screaming as a loud bang occurs, and the officer quickly pulls them to safety.
In a remarkable display of calm and compassion, officers are seen gently evacuating two small children, reassuring them as their family comforts them. One officer says, "Come here buddy, I'm gonna lift you over the wall, it's alright, okay?" as the family navigates the treacherous scene.
