SPEED DEMON RISKS IT ALL FOR DIM SUM!

SPEED DEMON RISKS IT ALL FOR DIM SUM!

A driver faces a potential court appearance and possible disqualification after a high-speed pursuit that sparked amusement and disbelief online.

The incident began with a chase, quickly drawing attention when images surfaced of a vehicle seemingly equipped to carry an extraordinary cargo – a towering stack of Chinese takeaway containers. The question on everyone’s mind: was a delicious meal worth risking everything?

Despite the reckless nature of the driving, officers lacked the immediate authority to seize the vehicle. It was, surprisingly, insured, leaving them to pursue prosecution through the legal system instead.

NI Road Policing and Safety Tonight officers from Road Policing Interceptors (Sprucefield) on patrol in the Kilrea area stopped the Blue BMW (pictured) as there were no policies of insurance showing on Police systems, on speaking with the driver it became apparent they were currently serving 2 periods of disqualification as well as driving without insurance. The driver will now have their day in Court to explain their actions. Their BMW was seized. Whilst waiting on recovery for the seized vehicle the Black Seat Leon was stopped in the same area as it also had no valid Insurance policies shown on our systems, in this instance the driver admitted no insurance and they also admitted only holding a Provisional driving licence, they'd also neglected to display any L plates on the car. They'll also have a day in Court to explain their actions. This vehicle was also seized. Whilst travelling up to the Kilrea area earlier in the evening, one of our crews was passed by the pictured Red Mitubishi Evo, the Evo's speed was measured along the A26 Lisnevenagh Rd and at times the vehicle was travelling in excess of 135 mph, this is nearly double the permitted speed for the A26 dual carriageway - the drivers explanation . . . . they were heading for Chinese takeaway!! This driver will also have their day in Court and could possibly face disqualification.

Police explained that while seizure isn’t always possible, arrest remains an option in certain circumstances. In this case, the owners of the vehicle explicitly stated their desire to have it returned, complicating matters further.

The story quickly went viral, prompting a flood of witty comments. One observer joked about the driver’s intelligence, while others playfully inquired about the source of the massive Chinese food order.

This incident comes on the heels of data revealing a disturbing trend of excessive speeding on UK roads. A recent analysis pinpointed hotspots where drivers routinely disregard 30mph speed limits.

A portion of sweet and sour chicken with egg fried rice. This old Chinese takeaway menu shows just how much prices have increased since the 1980s - when sweet and sour chicken cost just ?1.95. Sun Rise in New Ash Green, Kent, closed down yesterday (Monday) after almost 40 years of trading. Owners the Lee family say increased cost pressures and overheads made the business unviable. The takeaway opened in July 1986. A menu from the opening day has been retained, which shows had prices have changed in the last 38 years.

The data, compiled from 40 police forces, showed speeds reaching a shocking 122mph on a 30mph road in South Yorkshire. Another driver was clocked at 113mph in Sussex, highlighting the brazen disregard for safety.

Road safety experts emphasize the grave danger posed by these actions. Even a momentary lapse in judgment at such speeds can have devastating consequences for all road users.

The statistics paint a grim picture: in 2023 alone, 1,624 people lost their lives on UK roads, with nearly 30,000 killed or seriously injured. Speeding was a contributing factor in a staggering 58% of those fatalities.

Excessive speed directly contributed to 888 deaths and nearly 40,000 crashes last year. These numbers underscore the urgent need for increased awareness and stricter enforcement of speed limits.

On average, more than four people die on UK roads each day. The link between speeding and fatal collisions is undeniable, making it a critical issue for public safety.

The pursuit, the takeaway, and the shocking speeds all serve as a stark reminder of the potential for tragedy when drivers prioritize recklessness over responsibility.
