New Jersey mother's murder unsettles neighbors, heightening fear

Brooke Hanlon, 35, was found dead from a stabbing inside her home on Pottersville Road in Chester, New Jersey, on June 6, leaving behind a 12‑month‑old child.

Nearly seven weeks after the homicide, residents living only a few feet from the Hanlon house report heightened anxiety and increased vigilance, noting that ordinary sounds now draw their attention.

Neighbors observed a white Volvo SUV, believed to be linked to Brooke’s husband, Conor Hanlon, parked in the driveway for more than four hours last week before departing. This marked the first sighting of the vehicle at the property since it was seen in Boston a few days earlier.

When the SUV was spotted, one neighbor called the non‑emergency police line, expressing concern for the safety of the neighborhood.

Law enforcement has not identified a suspect or person of interest, and officials have not released further details about the investigation.

One resident, who owns a firearm, said he is prepared to protect his family if necessary, reflecting the community’s growing unease.

Police vehicles have been seen passing the Hanlon home, but both the local police department and the county prosecutor’s office declined to comment on the case.

The lack of public information has left many neighbors uneasy, with some describing the situation as “unnerving” due to the limited transparency.

Conor Hanlon has not issued a public statement regarding the investigation into his wife’s death.
