The Seattle Center shooting that occurred on Sunday has revealed new details, with police now believing that three suspects may have been involved in the mass shooting that left three people dead and four others wounded.
A 15-year-old was arrested in connection with the violence and booked into juvenile detention on suspicion of firearms violations and first-degree assault. According to a document filed in juvenile court in Seattle, the suspect, along with an acquaintance found dead at the scene, may have engaged in a gunfight with at least one other unknown suspect.
The shooting, which occurred outside the Seattle Center Armory, appears to have stemmed from a conflict between small groups who were at odds with each other, said police. The violence left multiple bystanders caught in the crossfire, and investigators believe that gunfire was exchanged.
Mayor Katie Wilson described the shooting as "an act of horrific violence," and called on the community to come together in support of the families affected. "No one should have to weigh the risk of being shot before attending an event, gathering with friends, or experiencing their city," she said.
Four other victims were injured in the shooting, including a 2-year-old boy, a 23-year-old man, a 39-year-old woman, and a 40-year-old woman. The toddler, who was initially transported to the hospital in stable condition, has since been upgraded to satisfactory condition.
Police are also investigating whether a 27-year-old man who self-transported to a hospital was an eighth victim. His involvement has not yet been confirmed. The venue was hosting the Bite of Seattle food festival over the weekend, which appears to have been a target of the violence.
Washington Gov. Bob Ferguson said he was receiving briefings on the situation, and State Patrol SWAT officers responded to the scene to assist Seattle Police. Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., said she was "absolutely horrified" by the shooting and offered her condolences to the victims and their families.
King County Executive Girmay Zahilay also condemned the violence, saying that it was "heartbreaking and unacceptable" to see violence at a place that brings so many people together.
