Trump defends love of junk food in rambling White House talk
U.S. President Donald Trump jokes with Indiana Head Coach Curt Cignetti during an event to celebrate the 2026 Football National Champion Indiana Hoosiers football team at the White House Monday.

U.S. President Donald Trump might agree that the secret sauce to staying young is unhealthy food.

Speaking from the White House on Monday, the president, 79, said he openly admits he doesn’t adhere to a particularly healthy diet, but says he feels as healthy as he felt 50 years ago.

“I feel literally the same,” Trump said. “Not because I eat the best foods. Maybe they are the best foods. Who knows what the best foods are? Maybe junk food is good and the other food is no good.”

The president suggested a healthy diet might not contribute much to your health.

“I know people, they eat the best food. They go to a restaurant, they have celery, and I don’t know what. And I’ll have steak and everything else … I know many, many people who all they do is watch their weight and this and that and they kick the bucket. And here we are, I feel great.”

Oldest serving president

At age 79, and turning 80 next month , Trump is the oldest person in history to serve as U.S. President, and some have raised concerns about the ongoing state of his health due to his age. Some consternation was recently raised concerning bruises on his hand during a White House appearance last week to honour military moms in the run-up to Mother’s Day.

The White House responded to the concerns, sayingTrump is “the sharpest, most accessible, and energetic president in American history.”

“The president is a man of the people and he meets more Americans and shakes their hands on a daily basis than any other president in history. President Trump’s commitment is unwavering and he proves that every single day,” White House spokesperson Davis Ingle said.
