Trump Announces EPA Ratepayer Policy During Live Event

President Trump addressed officials at the Environmental Protection Agency headquarters, announcing a new commitment to shield American consumers from higher utility costs tied to the expansion of artificial‑intelligence data centers.

The Ratepayer Protection Pledge, originally signed with leading technology firms and senior administration officials, requires participating companies to fully fund the additional electricity needed for data‑center operations.

In today’s expansion, close to 200 new participants—including utilities, data‑center developers, public power authorities, cooperatives, and state governors—joined the pledge.

The broadened agreement now covers roughly 80 percent of the electricity delivered to U.S. households and businesses.

Officials highlighted that the pledge prevents cost burdens from being passed onto families, positioning data centers as engines of local economic growth.

The administration framed the initiative as a strategy to sustain U.S. leadership in artificial intelligence while delivering tangible benefits to working families and small businesses.

The announcement was scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Eastern Time.
