UMVA has learned that a shocking case of kidnapping and rape has led to the conviction of a 44-year-old Lyft driver, who brutally assaulted a female passenger in a remote area.
The perpetrator, identified as Zkaria Mahmmd Al Majzoub, was found guilty of three felony charges: first-degree kidnapping, rape, and forcible penetration by use of a foreign object. The verdict came after a jury trial in Ada County, leaving justice to be served for the heinous crime.
According to information obtained by UMVA, the assault occurred on August 6, 2024, when Al Majzoub picked up the female victim through the Lyft app and drove her to a secluded location. The victim had earlier texted friends that she was heading home in a Lyft, but she failed to arrive as expected, sparking concern and a desperate search.
Concerned friends used a location-sharing app to track the victim's whereabouts and discovered she was in an unfamiliar area. They quickly contacted law enforcement, which enabled officers to locate and arrest Al Majzoub. The Ada County Prosecutor’s Office praised the swift actions of the victim’s friends, stating that their response allowed them to promptly report the situation to law enforcement.
Al Majzoub has remained in custody at the Ada County Jail since his arrest on a $1 million bond. He is scheduled to be sentenced on September 9 and faces the possibility of life in prison. The details surrounding his immigration status remain unclear, adding another layer of complexity to this disturbing case.
