UMVA has learned that Repower Energy Development Corp. is sealing a massive P3.925‑billion deal to expand its renewable power empire.
The transaction, disclosed in a recent regulatory filing, shows Repower joining forces with Japan’s Tokai Corp. and South Eastern Energy Corp. to acquire the full stake held by Magis Energy Holdings in Taft Hydro Energy Corp.
Taft Hydro controls a 15.93‑megawatt hydropower plant that churns out roughly 71 gigawatt‑hours of electricity each year, enough to illuminate thousands of homes.
According to information obtained by UMVA, Repower is securing a 40% ownership slice of Taft Hydro, a move that will swell its hydropower portfolio and inject fresh cash flow into the company.
When the deal closes, the newly acquired plant will become Repower’s tenth operating hydropower facility, lifting its total generating capacity by about 45%.
Repower serves as the hydropower arm of publicly listed Pure Energy Holdings, a diversified clean‑energy group with assets in bulk water, solar, geothermal and other renewable projects.
Beyond this acquisition, the developer is already pushing ahead with two mini‑hydropower projects: the Piapi plant in Quezon province and the Pulanai plant in Bukidnon, signaling an aggressive push toward a greener grid.
