Just over a month after serial killer Rex Heuermann was sentenced to the maximum sentence for murdering eight women between 1993 and 2010, a disturbing incident occurred at his Massapequa Park home.
Two masked individuals were seen banging on Heuermann's home on Tuesday, a report stated. The individuals, wearing black masks, T-shirts, and shorts, were seen running from the porch of Heuermann's home in New York, according to police and the family's attorney.
The family, including Heuermann's ex-wife Asa Ellerup and her two children, Victoria and Christopher, were home at the time of the incident. A video shows two masked men on Heuermann's porch running off as the family dog barked.
A police report was filed, but the incident was not considered a serious attempted break-in since no one tried to enter the home. The incident occurred at around 8 p.m. Tuesday, according to police.
The family's attorney, Robert Macedonio, stated that the family is constantly harassed, with people driving by, making comments, and leaving items on the door. Macedonio expressed concern for Ellerup's well-being, citing the daily harassment she faces.
Heuermann was sentenced in June to three consecutive life sentences without parole, followed by four consecutive sentences of 25 years to life, after admitting to murdering eight women. In a statement before his sentencing, Heuermann said, "I'm responsible. The words I would say have no meaning."
The incident at Heuermann's home has raised concerns about the safety and well-being of his family, particularly his ex-wife and children, who continue to face harassment from unknown individuals.
