Globe Telecom, Inc. has announced that it has successfully connected all 180 sites awarded to the company under the Department of Information and Communications Technology’s (DICT) Bayanihan SIM project.
The Bayanihan SIM program aims to bridge the digital divide by providing free internet connectivity to geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDAs), with the goal of expanding free Wi-Fi access and providing SIM cards that include 25 gigabytes (GB) of monthly data valid for one year.
Globe has activated the final 52 GIDA sites assigned to the company, and has completed 43 of these sites through an accelerated two-month deployment. This brings the total number of sites completed under the Bayanihan SIM program to 128 across Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao.
The DICT Secretary expressed gratitude to Globe for its continued partnership in helping advance the shared goal of inclusive digital transformation. Globe's efforts have enabled greater access to education, government services, livelihood opportunities, and other essential digital resources.
Globe has distributed over 355,400 Bayanihan SIM cards to beneficiaries, exceeding its target deployment of 500,400 under the P1.5-billion program. The company was awarded project lots nationwide under the Bayanihan SIM program.
In a separate media statement, Globe launched Globe Cloud, a secure cloud storage service that allows customers to back up data and files for access across multiple devices. The platform is protected by a personal identification number (PIN) or biometric authentication.
Globe shares closed unchanged at P1,870 each on Monday at the Philippine Stock Exchange.
