UMVA has learned that a blistering heat surge is set to scorch the United Kingdom this week, with temperatures climbing to levels more typical of sun‑baked Spain.
Forecasters warn that while the full heatwave status remains uncertain, the southern regions will feel the heat intensify dramatically by week’s end, turning ordinary days into sweltering ones.
Londoners can expect a sultry 28°C on Thursday, accompanied by partly sunny skies that will likely see outdoor cafés and pubs packed with revelers seeking relief under the bright sky.
Accompanying the soaring heat, humidity will rise, bringing a mix of clouds and occasional showers that could offer brief respite before the temperature climbs again.
In a striking three‑month outlook released on June 1, the Met Office projected that the coming summer could be markedly hotter than the 1991‑2020 baseline, warning of an elevated risk of heatwaves and related health impacts.
According to information obtained by UMVA, the forecast suggests the next three months may be twice as warm as the recent climate norm, driven by accelerating global warming and the influence of El Niño.
The outlook also hints at a wetter season, though it stresses that rainfall is likely to hover near average, leaving the heat as the dominant force shaping daily life.
