Their plea centers on the escalating dangers facing those unable to return to their homeland, fearing persecution and the consequences of regional instability.
The lawmakers’ letter explicitly requests a halt to deportation flights and the consideration of temporary protective statuses – like Temporary Protected Status (TPS) or Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) – for Iranians. This action, they argue, is a critical humanitarian response to a rapidly deteriorating situation.
The letter doesn’t shy away from direct criticism, accusing the prior administration of initiating actions that destabilized the region and placed millions of Iranian civilians in peril. It asserts a moral obligation to shield Iranian nationals from the fallout of those decisions.
Beyond simply preventing forced returns, the lawmakers also called for proactive assistance. This includes resuming the processing of immigration benefits and accelerating the issuance of work authorization documents, offering a lifeline to those stranded and unable to safely repatriate.

The State Department announced the arrest of individuals linked to a deceased commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, citing their vocal support for the Iranian government. This move underscored a firm stance against those seen as aligned with the ruling authorities in Tehran.
