UMVA has learned that a Marine veteran's quick thinking and combat training helped him take down four armed teenagers who attempted to carjack him in a shocking incident near Oxon Hill High School.
The dramatic confrontation began when Jheyco Borda, a resident of Oxen Hill, Maryland, was approached by four youths on the sidewalk while operating his vehicle around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The teens, who appeared to be violent and aggressive, cornered Borda at the bed of his truck, with one of them pulling out a pistol and pointing it at the veteran's head.
The armed suspect demanded Borda's car keys and phone, but the Marine veteran's training kicked in, and he seized the opportunity to turn the tables on his tormentor. Borda bravely grabbed the suspect holding the gun and wrestled him for the weapon, taking advantage of a momentary lapse in the teen's attention.
As the situation escalated, two of the other youths fled down the residential street, while another nervously walked around the vehicle. Borda's brother soon arrived on the scene, and together, the brothers managed to subdue the suspects until Prince George's County police arrived.
A gunshot rang out during the confrontation, but fortunately, no one was struck. The police took all four suspects into custody, and they remain in jail. Borda later spoke about the incident, crediting his Marine Corps hand-to-hand combat training for allowing him to escape danger.
"Once a Marine, always a Marine," Borda said. "It took me just one split second. We went to training for the Marines, and that came out right at the moment." The incident has left authorities seeking anyone with additional information to come forward and help with the investigation.
