A Hamilton woman is celebrating her lottery win by celebrating Canadian rock.
Lori Margerison learned on the OLG app that her Instant Crossword Deluxe ticket was a $250,000 winner.
She has been playing the lottery for three decades, with the instant games being her go-to — specifically, Crossword and Bingo.
“Initially, I thought something was wrong with the app,” she recalled as she collected her winnings at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto.
So she decided to double-check the ticket in person.
“I brought my ticket to the store for validation and the machine shut down,” she said. “It was surreal!”
The 60-year-old, who works as a housekeeper in a hospital, immediately called her daughter to share the incredible news.
“I still didn’t know what was happening,” she said. “I’m a very proud mother, and to be able to help my daughter is so exciting.”

Margerison continued: “This win has changed my whole life. It will provide me with a newfound freedom.”
As for plans, she’s keeping it local.
“I’m going to take my brother on a trip to Banff, and I’m excited to go see Rush next year!”
