
Pharrell Williams and the Jonas Brothers are coming to Toronto for the World Series.
Blue Jays fans will be treated to the popular musical acts as they perform live at the Rogers Centre for the first two games of Major League Baseball’s best-of-seven series this weekend.
The league announced Thursday that Williams, a 13-time Grammy winner,will sing before Game 1 on Fridayas the Blue Jays host the National League champion Los Angeles Dodgers.
Then on Saturday for Game 2 of the Fall Classic, the Jonas Brothers will entertain the crowd while raising funds for cancer research as part of a partnership between MLB and Mastercard.
Friday’s on-field performance will see Williams sing alongside his uncle Bishop Ezekiel Williams’ group Voices of Fire songs from their new album “Ophanim” before the gospel choir performs both the American and Canadian anthems.
Because the World Series opens in Canada, MLB said a Toronto orchestra and additional local performers will accompany Voices of Fire during their rendition of O Canada.
The Jonas Brothers will perform their latest single,I Can’t Lose, which is also the official song of Mastercard’s Stand Up To Cancer campaign, before the game.
“As lifelong baseball fans, it’s special to be part of a moment where music and purpose come together,” the American pop rock bandsaid in a statement.
Fans in attendance on Saturday will rise and hold placards honouring those affected by cancer, the league said.
“Baseball is one of the most powerful stages in culture, a game of shared experiences that connects generations,” the credit card company’s marketing executive Rustom Dastoor said.
