US Marine arrested, accused of traveling 'to meet, kidnap and sexually assault' 12-year-old girl: FBI

A chilling case unfolded this week with the arrest of a 24-year-old active-duty Marine, William Richard Roy, accused of a horrific crime. Authorities allege Roy traveled hundreds of miles with the intent to kidnap and sexually assault a 12-year-old girl, sparking a frantic multi-state search.

The FBI’s investigation began with a desperate plea from a grandmother in Hammond, Indiana, who reported her granddaughter missing on October 25th. Information quickly surfaced suggesting the girl was traveling with Roy, a Marine stationed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, raising immediate alarm.

A swift and coordinated response involving the FBI, Hammond Police Department, and U.S. Marshals Service revealed a disturbing timeline. Roy allegedly flew into Chicago on October 24th, then used a rideshare service to reach Hammond, where he met the child at a local park.

The pair then embarked on a harrowing journey, traveling by rideshare back to Chicago, spending the night in a hotel, and ultimately boarding a Greyhound bus headed for Durham, North Carolina. Each leg of the trip deepened the urgency of the investigation.

Fortunately, the nightmare ended with the girl’s safe recovery. On October 26th, FBI agents in Durham, acting on information from multiple field offices, apprehended Roy as the bus arrived. The child was immediately taken into protective custody.

Investigators have revealed a disturbing detail about how the alleged contact began: Roy reportedly claimed to have met the girl on TikTok. This highlights the dangers lurking within online spaces and the vulnerability of young people.

Roy now faces severe federal charges, including enticement of a minor to travel for illicit sexual activity, transportation of a minor for such purposes, and interstate travel with intent to commit a sexual act with a minor. These charges carry significant penalties.

The Marine Corps has yet to issue a statement regarding the allegations against Roy. The focus remains on ensuring the safety and well-being of the victim and bringing justice to those responsible for this alleged crime.
