A disturbing visual glitch is affecting some Windows 11 users, turning their digital worlds a disconcerting shade of red. Reports began surfacing of games and videos inexplicably tinted with a crimson hue, transforming immersive experiences into something unsettling.
Microsoft has acknowledged the issue, linking it to the installation of update KB5064081. The company confirmed that certain videos and games might unexpectedly display a red cast, though specifics regarding affected titles remain vague. The problem appears to stem from a color rendering bug, potentially triggered when Windows 11 attempts to enhance colors and brightness, particularly in HDR settings.
Fortunately, a solution arrived with the subsequent optional update, KB5067036. This patch directly addresses the red tint, offering relief to those plagued by the visual anomaly. A more comprehensive fix is also planned for the November 2025 Patch Tuesday release, ensuring all users benefit from the correction.
However, KB5067036 isn’t a flawless remedy. Alongside the red cast fix and a redesigned Start menu, it also brought to light another peculiar bug. Some users reported that only portions of the screen would refresh when running full-screen applications or games in the background.
This new glitch manifests as unresponsive onscreen content, particularly noticeable during scrolling, where only fragments of the window update. It creates a jarring and disruptive experience, hindering smooth interaction with applications. Microsoft has confirmed this issue as well.
Adding another layer of complexity, KB5067036 itself introduces a new problem: Task Manager failing to close properly. This unexpected behavior leaves the utility running in the background, potentially consuming system resources. For those unaffected by the initial red cast or the bugs addressed in this update, a cautious approach – waiting for the next mandatory update – might be the wisest course of action.
