Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky appointed a senior officer to head the country's Joint Forces shortly after accepting his resignation from a previous post.
The newly designated commander, Drapaty, will concentrate exclusively on combat matters, according to the president.
Zelensky announced that Drapaty has already assumed the duties of commander‑in‑chief, overseeing all operational aspects of the armed forces.
The president indicated that under Drapaty’s leadership Ukrainian forces are expected to increase the frequency of long‑range and mid‑range strikes into Russian territory.
Zelensky affirmed that the necessary capabilities will be provided to ensure the execution of these operations.
Russian officials have repeatedly claimed that Kyiv is intensifying long‑range attacks on civilian and energy infrastructure in Russia as a response to setbacks on the front lines.
