CARE HOME HORROR: Reckless Speed Demons Behind Bars!

The silence of Highcliffe Care Home in Sunderland was shattered one night by a terrifying intrusion. A stolen BMW, hurtling at a reckless 100 miles per hour, crashed directly into the building, unleashing chaos and unimaginable fear within its walls.

Two elderly residents tragically lost their lives in the impact. Among the injured was a 94-year-old woman battling dementia, a vulnerable soul whose world was irrevocably altered as the floor of the upstairs lounge gave way, collapsing around her.

The car, stolen just fifteen minutes earlier from the Fenham area of Newcastle, had been spotted by police who immediately gave chase. What followed was a desperate pursuit through residential streets, a race against time with devastating consequences.

Behind the wheel was Sam Asgari-Tabar, and beside him, Reece Parish. The pair had initially posed as potential buyers, responding to a Facebook advertisement for the BMW, before brazenly stealing the vehicle – and briefly kidnapping the woman who was showing it.

Footage shown in court revealed the harrowing speed of the chase, police vehicles reaching 100mph in a desperate attempt to intercept the stolen car. The pursuit ended not with an arrest, but with a catastrophic collision.

The impact wasn’t just physical; it was deeply emotional. Judge Stephen Earl, presiding over the case at Newcastle Crown Court, described it as one of the worst examples of dangerous driving he had ever witnessed. He spoke of the residents, many with dementia, left bewildered and terrified by the sudden, violent disruption.

Asgari-Tabar was sentenced to five years and two months in prison, having pleaded guilty to robbery and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. Parish received a 19-month sentence for his role in the theft, and an additional 18 months for violent disorder stemming from last summer’s riots in Sunderland.

The judge acknowledged a chilling element of luck, marveling that the damage and injuries weren’t even more extensive. Yet, the profound impact on the residents of Highcliffe Care Home, and the families of those lost, remains immeasurable.

The crash left an indelible mark, a stark reminder of the fragility of life and the devastating consequences of reckless actions. It was a night that shattered the peace of a quiet care home and left a community reeling in shock and grief.
