A young girl’s harrowing journey into the United States spiraled into unimaginable horror, betrayed by those who should have protected her. Smuggled across the border by her own mother years ago, she was left in the care of her uncle, a man who would become her tormentor.
That uncle, Felix Bustillo Diaz, a 49-year-old from Honduras with a criminal past, was not only her sponsor but was also granted Temporary Protected Status (TPS) by the current administration. This protection, intended for those fleeing hardship, was granted despite his history, and later revoked following the unfolding nightmare.
The abuse began with Bustillo and escalated with the arrival of Jose Gerber-Rivera, a 45-year-old Salvadoran national. Both men are accused of brutally assaulting the girl, a betrayal of trust that shattered her innocence.
Hope flickered when the girl escaped Bustillo’s control, seeking refuge with Brenda Garcia, 38, and Tania Garcia, 37, two Houston-area women. They presented themselves as saviors, offering rescue, but their kindness was a cruel deception.
The sisters immediately subjected the girl to a new wave of terror. She was bound with zip ties, beaten relentlessly, and deliberately starved, her fragile body enduring unimaginable suffering.
Court documents reveal a chilling pattern of abuse. The girl was forced into grueling manual labor, punished for even the smallest infraction, like seeking food. Restraints became her nightly prison, zip ties cutting into her skin, sometimes even tied to a chair.
The torment extended beyond physical violence. Brenda Garcia allegedly took exploitative nude photos and subjected the girl to horrific psychological abuse, even attempting to strangle her while uttering chilling words of despair.
She endured beatings with cables and a spiked belt, wounds that left her bleeding and broken. Her mattress was removed, forcing her to sleep on a cold, hard floor while still restrained, a constant reminder of her captivity.
The girl’s ordeal finally ended on September 28th when she managed to break free. Brenda and Tania Garcia were subsequently arrested on charges including felony injury to a child, unlawful restraint, and invasive visual recording.
Authorities have emphasized their commitment to justice, stating the investigation uncovered deeply disturbing acts. Both Bustillo and Gerber-Rivera are now in custody, facing the consequences of their horrific crimes, while investigators continue to unravel the full extent of the abuse.
