According to documents obtained, teachers are being informed that they cannot opt out of teaching an “LGBTQ+ inclusive curriculum,” and are, in fact, *required* to teach “LGBTQ+ History.” This directive removes teacher discretion and mandates the inclusion of specific content.

School system guidance explicitly encourages teachers to display affirming materials in their classrooms, answering the question “Can I put Pride flags and other LGBTQ+ affirming materials in my classroom?” with a resounding “Yes! We encourage you to do so!”

The situation is further complicated by a recent incident involving a Chicago Public Schools teacher who was filmed at a protest appearing to mock a public figure. The video, which quickly went viral, depicted the teacher simulating violence, sparking widespread outrage.
