For years, Attorney Ty Clevenger has relentlessly pursued answers, battling the FBI for access to crucial records related to Rich’s death. His efforts, driven by a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit, have revealed a disturbing pattern of obstruction and concealment.
Initially, the FBI denied possessing Seth Rich’s laptop. However, Clevenger’s legal pressure forced a stunning admission: the agency had the laptop all along. Despite this revelation, the FBI continues to withhold vital metadata from Rich’s electronic devices, deepening the suspicion of a cover-up.
The obfuscation doesn’t stop there. Clevenger uncovered evidence that the FBI improperly withheld pages from the CrowdStrike report concerning the alleged 2016 DNC hack – an event that became a central point in the accusations against President Trump.
In a move escalating the legal battle, Clevenger filed a motion in federal court to hold the FBI in contempt. He accuses the agency of “deliberate and willful defiance” of a court order demanding the release of key information surrounding Rich’s murder and the origins of the ‘Russian hacking’ narrative.

Recent discoveries have revealed a troubling practice by former FBI Director James Comey: deliberately misspelling names – including Hillary Clinton, Huma Abedin, and Anthony Weiner – in emails to evade keyword searches. This tactic, combined with the use of a private email account under a false name, demonstrates a clear intent to circumvent transparency laws.
The recipient of Comey’s emails was also using a non-FBI account despite being an FBI special employee, further highlighting the deliberate effort to conceal communications. This behavior occurred while Comey oversaw the very investigation into the 2016 election interference probe connected to Seth Rich.
Even after Comey’s dismissal, evidence suggests a continued effort to hide damaging information. Handwritten notes were reportedly placed in “burn bags” shortly before the 2025 inauguration, indicating a desperate attempt to destroy potentially incriminating documents.

The attorney insists the FBI must expand its search to include all email and messaging systems, utilizing any misspelled names or codenames associated with Rich.
Clevenger’s letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel, sent in April, demanded answers – answers that remain unanswered.
