Police have identified Kacy Corso, a resident of nearby Setauket, as the alleged perpetrator in the stabbing death of Christopher Millwater, of Selden. The incident unfolded in the yacht club’s parking lot, a space usually reserved for leisurely pursuits, transforming it into a grim crime scene marked by police tape.
The location, situated across from a pair of marinas and the popular Three Village Inn restaurant and wedding venue, is approximately 60 miles east of New York City. Witnesses reported an altercation that escalated quickly, leading to the tragic loss of life.
Fortuitously, the Stony Brook Yacht Club is extensively monitored by security cameras, strategically positioned on every light pole. Investigators have reportedly secured video footage capturing much of the violent encounter, offering crucial evidence in the case.
Corso appeared in court in Central Islip Thursday morning, formally charged with second-degree murder – a charge under New York law reserved for intentional acts of killing. Authorities have not yet indicated whether further charges are anticipated as the investigation continues.
A chilling connection between Corso and Millwater appears to have existed prior to the tragedy. A Facebook post from Corso’s account in July suggests a familiarity with the victim, hinting at a pre-existing relationship.
Further scrutiny of Corso’s social media reveals another photograph taken in the yacht club parking lot in July, near the boat ramp. Millwater himself had “liked” one of her posts just days before his death, adding another layer of complexity to the unfolding narrative.
Court records reveal a history of minor legal issues for Corso, including charges stemming from an incident at a different boat launch earlier this year. In May, she was accused of illegally accessing a parking lot in Smithtown and violating park hours.
The tragedy is particularly poignant given Millwater’s recent health battle. According to his Facebook page, he had received a clean bill of health in October after successfully overcoming cancer. His sister shared with local news that Stony Brook held a special place in his heart as his favorite fishing spot.
