CRIME SCENE: Teacher charged after youth sexually assaulted during Bible study

A former math teacher is facing serious allegations in York Region, accused of sexual assault and exploitation of a student. The charges stem from reported incidents occurring between September and November at a Markham school, during private Bible study sessions.

The victim, a youth whose identity is being protected, came forward on November 13th, detailing alleged inappropriate touching. Authorities believe other victims may exist and have released a photograph of the suspect, Taurus Chung, 40, of Richmond Hill, hoping to encourage anyone with information to come forward.

In Toronto, police are urgently seeking James Irwin Allan Davey, 46, wanted in connection with a series of disturbing assaults against two women he knows. The alleged offenses, spanning from February to October, include assault with a weapon, forcible confinement, threats, harassment, and even break-and-enter.

Taurus Chung, 40, of Richmond Hill, is charged with sexual assault and sexual exploitation.

The most recent incident occurred near Eglinton and Marlee, mirroring the pattern of violence and control exhibited in the earlier allegations. Davey is described as 5-foot-10 with a heavy build, balding with short grey hair and green eyes – a description police hope will aid in his swift apprehension.

A brazen robbery at a Mississauga LCBO led to the arrest of Ajitpal Gill, 25, who allegedly brandished a knife at a cashier before making off with stolen liquor. The suspect, now facing multiple charges including robbery and theft, was apprehended shortly after the incident on November 12th, with the stolen merchandise recovered.

Peel Regional Police are also sounding the alarm about a sophisticated fraud scheme targeting unsuspecting investors with fake GICs. Between 2022 and 2024, numerous individuals were lured in by convincing websites and emails mimicking legitimate financial institutions, resulting in significant financial losses.

The fraudsters, posing as investment advisors, instructed victims to transfer funds, providing seemingly authentic documentation. Communication abruptly ceased once the money was transferred, leaving victims with worthless certificates and unanswered calls. John Marshall, 63, of Brampton, has been charged in connection with one such incident, involving a $200,000 fraud, with $113,000 recovered.

Authorities urge extreme caution when considering online investment opportunities, emphasizing the importance of verifying the legitimacy of any financial institution before transferring funds. The rise in these scams underscores the need for vigilance in protecting personal finances.
