A significant break in a massive international drug trafficking case has unfolded with the arrest of Rasheed Pascua Hossain, a 33-year-old Canadian wanted by U.S. authorities. Hossain’s capture, made by the RCMP in Vancouver, marks a crucial step in dismantling what investigators are calling the “Wedding Criminal Enterprise.”
The FBI issued an arrest warrant for Hossain on October 28th, alleging his involvement in cocaine trafficking and money laundering. He is accused of playing a key role in the organization allegedly led by former Canadian Olympian Ryan Wedding, now a fugitive and the subject of an intense manhunt.
This investigation, codenamed “Operation Giant Slalom,” paints a chilling picture of Wedding’s alleged operation. Authorities believe he’s a narco-trafficker operating on a scale comparable to infamous figures like El Chapo and Pablo Escobar.
The FBI recently escalated the pressure, raising the reward for Wedding’s capture to $15 million. They’ve also offered additional rewards for information leading to the arrest of individuals believed to be responsible for the murder of a potential witness in Colombia earlier this year.
U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi has publicly stated that Wedding controls “one of the most prolific and violent drug-trafficking organizations in the world.” The scope of the alleged operation is staggering, with authorities claiming it traffics an estimated 60 metric tons of cocaine annually.
Wedding, a 44-year-old who once represented Canada at the 2002 Winter Olympics, is now listed on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list. Intelligence suggests he is currently hiding in Mexico, collaborating with the Sinaloa Cartel to flood North America with cocaine sourced from Colombia.
Hossain’s arrest follows closely on the heels of another alleged associate, Gursewak Singh Bal, who was apprehended earlier this week. Bal is accused of accepting payment to suppress information about Wedding and, disturbingly, for sharing a photo of a witness, effectively marking them for potential harm.
The investigation has also led to the arrest of Wedding’s lawyer, Deepak Balwant Paradkar, who authorities allege advised Wedding to orchestrate the murder of a witness. This reveals a disturbing level of alleged corruption and willingness to resort to extreme violence.
Beyond Hossain, Bal, and Paradkar, a network of individuals across Canada, the United States, and Colombia have been taken into custody in connection with the case. The arrests represent a concerted effort to dismantle the entire organization, from its leadership to its logistical support network.
The ongoing investigation continues to unravel a complex web of criminal activity, exposing the dark underbelly of international drug trafficking and the lengths to which those involved will go to protect their illicit empire. The pursuit of Ryan Wedding remains a top priority for law enforcement on both sides of the border.
