TRUMP'S CASH-FOR-ACCESS PARTIES: DEMS DECLARE WAR!

TRUMP'S CASH-FOR-ACCESS PARTIES: DEMS DECLARE WAR!

A proposed law aims to fundamentally reshape how donations are accepted and used for White House renovations, responding to concerns about potential conflicts of interest and undue influence.

The core of the legislation focuses on preventing donations from sources with clear conflicts, and explicitly prohibits the president, vice president, their families, and staff from directly requesting these funds.

Even after rigorous vetting by the National Park Service and the Office of Government Ethics, the bill doesn’t guarantee recognition. It would block the public display of donor names as a thank you, and impose a two-year lobbying restriction on those who contribute.

The measure goes further, safeguarding donated funds from personal use by the president, vice president, or their inner circle, ensuring the money remains dedicated to its intended purpose.

Transparency is also a key component. Donors would be required to disclose any meetings with federal government officials within a year of making a contribution, and anonymous donations would be strictly forbidden.

Senator Blumenthal framed the legislation as a direct response to what he described as the previous administration’s willingness to accept substantial donations for projects driven by personal preference, calling it a “ballroom boondoggle.”

The proposed reforms seek to prevent future administrations from leveraging construction projects as opportunities for corruption or self-aggrandizement, establishing a clearer ethical boundary.

The White House, however, dismissed the effort, defending the renovations as a restoration of the White House’s grandeur and dismissing criticism as politically motivated.

During the previous term, several visible changes were made to the White House, including the addition of gold detailing in the Oval Office and a complete overhaul of the Rose Garden’s landscaping.
