LONDON ERUPTS: Massive Explosion Rocks City!

A terrifying scene unfolded in Southall, London this morning as a massive fire engulfed a two-story warehouse, prompting a major incident declaration and widespread evacuations. The blaze, visible across the capital, sent plumes of thick, black smoke billowing into the sky, reaching as far as Merton – a distance of approximately 17 miles.

Around 150 firefighters are battling the inferno, but have been forced to withdraw to a safe distance due to fears the warehouse contained a highly volatile cargo: fireworks. The initial reports came in just before 9am, with over 50 calls flooding emergency lines as flames rapidly consumed three-quarters of the building.

The potential for explosive fireworks triggered the major incident declaration by both the London Fire Brigade and Ealing Council. Assistant Commissioner Pat Goulbourne explained the difficult decision, emphasizing the paramount importance of crew safety and the need to fight the fire from a greater distance.

Schools were swiftly evacuated, sending pupils home as a precaution, and residents in nearby flats were also urged to leave their homes. The sheer scale of the fire and the complex nature of the site suggest a prolonged operation, with crews bracing for a long day of firefighting.

Witnesses reported hearing firework-like noises shortly before the fire erupted, adding to the growing concern about the building’s contents. Residents are being advised to keep doors and windows closed to protect themselves from the dense smoke that is blanketing West London.

Traffic in the area is heavily disrupted, and authorities are urging the public to avoid Southall if possible. The cause of the fire remains unknown as investigations begin, but the immediate focus remains on containing the blaze and ensuring the safety of both firefighters and the surrounding community.
