A somber Tuesday morning unfolded in North York as a man succumbed to gunshot wounds in hospital. Police were alerted around 5:25 a.m. when the victim arrived at a medical facility, his condition rapidly deteriorating. The Homicide Unit has now taken the lead in unraveling the circumstances surrounding this tragic death.
Just hours earlier, in the heart of the Entertainment District, another shooting sent officers scrambling. Responding to a call near King Street West and Spadina Avenue around 4:45 a.m., they discovered a man in his twenties suffering from gunshot injuries. Immediate life-saving efforts were undertaken before he was rushed to hospital with serious, though currently non-life-threatening, injuries.
The city also witnessed a disturbing hit-and-run incident downtown on Monday afternoon. A 40-year-old woman was struck by a white Hino truck near Beverley Street and Grange Avenue, close to the Art Gallery of Ontario, sustaining life-threatening injuries. The driver allegedly fled the scene, but was later apprehended.
Olusegun Stephen Olayemiu, 56, of Toronto, now faces charges of failing to remain at the scene causing bodily harm and careless driving causing bodily harm. The investigation continues, seeking to fully understand the events leading up to the pedestrian’s severe injuries.
An investigation by the Integrated Gun and Gang Task Force led to the seizure of a loaded semi-automatic handgun and ammunition on November 22nd. A search warrant was executed at a residence in the Mount Pleasant Road and Broadway Avenue area, revealing the concealed firearm.
Derrick Bowyer, 41, of Toronto, was subsequently arrested and charged with multiple firearm-related offenses, including possession of an unauthorized firearm and possession of prohibited devices. He also faces charges related to violating existing prohibition orders.
Toronto Police are also investigating a sexual assault alleged to have occurred in 2024. The accuser reported being invited to an apartment in the Entertainment District by the accused, where the alleged assault took place.
Justin Aguiar, 28, of Toronto, was arrested on November 20th and charged with sexual assault. He is scheduled to appear in court on January 14, 2026, as the legal process unfolds.
