Husband of £3m Omaze winner ‘secretly recorded’ and sexually abused young girls

Husband of £3m Omaze winner ‘secretly recorded’ and sexually abused young girls

A man, once celebrated for a stunning lottery win, is now facing the consequences of horrific crimes. Anthony Doyle has been sentenced to prison after admitting to a decade of sexual abuse against young girls, a stark contrast to the joy his family experienced just a year ago.

The details of Doyle’s offenses, revealed in Birmingham Crown Court, paint a disturbing picture. He was convicted on multiple counts, including sexual assault, voyeurism, and possessing indecent images and videos of children – a total of 179 pictures and 137 videos were discovered by police.

One victim recounted years of torment, beginning when she was just nine years old. The abuse escalated over time, leaving her with deep scars and a shattered sense of trust. She described a “massive effect” on her mental health, confidence, and ability to form relationships.

Doyle received a sentence of six years and three months, a punishment that victims’ families deemed woefully inadequate. They expressed anguish that the sentence felt disproportionately short compared to the lifetime of pain he inflicted.

“He is given less years in prison than what he spent abusing,” one relative stated, voicing a common sentiment of frustration and despair. Another family member pointed out the imbalance, noting Doyle would likely return to a relatively long life while his victims would forever carry the trauma.

The judge echoed these concerns during sentencing, acknowledging that the repercussions of Doyle’s actions would far outlast the duration of his imprisonment. A previous hearing had been delayed when Doyle attempted to retract his confessions.

The case takes an even more poignant turn considering Doyle’s recent fortune. His wife, Rose, won a £3 million Cornish home and £100,000 in cash through the Omaze lottery just last year, a moment of immense happiness now overshadowed by tragedy.

The couple, married for 47 years, had excitedly discussed their plans for retirement and spoiling their family. However, Rose Doyle is now pursuing a divorce, seeking to separate her life from her husband’s crimes.

Rose herself was briefly arrested in connection with alleged sexual offenses, but the case was dropped, and no further action was taken. The family’s story has undergone a devastating transformation, from a dream come true to a nightmare of betrayal and abuse.

Doyle’s defense counsel offered an apology on his behalf, acknowledging the anxiety caused to the victims and their families. But for those impacted by his actions, the apology rings hollow against the backdrop of years of suffering.
