ROOFING RIP-OFF & WALLET PLUNDER: Brampton Crook on the Loose!

ROOFING RIP-OFF & WALLET PLUNDER: Brampton Crook on the Loose!

A chilling pattern of deception has emerged in Toronto, targeting vulnerable seniors with promises of home repairs that were never fulfilled. A 23-year-old man now faces a barrage of charges after allegedly defrauding elderly residents out of thousands of dollars.

In July, two victims were approached by individuals posing as legitimate contractors and even city workers. These imposters offered services – roof repairs, mandatory yard work, and urgent home fixes – preying on the trust and anxieties of those they targeted.

The victims, believing they were addressing genuine needs, handed over their money, only to find the work never began. The repairs were either unnecessary or simply vanished with the cash, leaving the seniors financially and emotionally drained.

Arashdeep Singh, 23, of Brampton, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with conspiracy to commit an indictable offence and other offences.

Arashdeep Singh has been arrested and charged with a complex web of offenses, including conspiracy, money laundering, and multiple counts of fraud and possession of stolen property. The alleged scheme involved sums exceeding $5,000 per victim.

Investigators believe the scope of this fraud may be far wider, and are urging anyone with information to come forward. Business names linked to the alleged operation include Xcellent Custom Homes Ltd., Friendly Masonry Ltd., and 17051450 Canada Inc.

In a separate, disturbing case, Toronto Police are investigating a series of thefts targeting unsuspecting individuals. A suspect is accused of skillfully stealing wallets and bank cards from victims in public places.

Toronto Police want to identify this man, who is believed to be about 50 to 70 years old and is about 5-foot-9 to 6-foot with a white beard. He was wearing a dark jacket and sunglasses.

The first incident occurred in November at a financial institution in Etobicoke. The suspect reportedly walked closely to a victim, using the proximity to discreetly steal their wallet before disappearing northbound on The East Mall.

Months later, in January, a similar tactic was employed in a parking lot near Burnhamthorpe and Dundas Street West. The suspect falsely claimed there was an issue with the victim’s car, distracting them long enough to steal their bank cards.

Those stolen cards were then used to make unauthorized withdrawals, compounding the financial harm to the victim. Police describe the suspect as an older male, between 50 and 70 years old, approximately 5’9” to 6’ tall, with a distinctive white beard.

He was last seen wearing a dark jacket and sunglasses, blending into the everyday surroundings while allegedly continuing his deceptive practices. Authorities are actively seeking information to identify and apprehend this individual.

Beyond these specific cases, a former Toronto Police homicide chief has voiced serious concerns about the internal culture within the force. Allegations of antisemitism and racism are reportedly undermining the integrity and effectiveness of the service.

These internal issues, coupled with the external crimes targeting vulnerable citizens, paint a troubling picture of challenges facing the Toronto Police. The need for both vigilance against external threats and a commitment to internal reform is becoming increasingly clear.

In other news, the second sexual assault trial involving Frank Stronach has been postponed, now scheduled to begin in May 2027. Details surrounding the postponement have not been released.
