The football coach at a Virginia high school vanished as authorities moved to question him, triggering a widespread search and a chilling revelation. Travis L. Turner, 46, is now facing ten warrants – five for possession of child pornography and five for using a computer to solicit a minor. The investigation, however, is far from over, with officials hinting at further charges to come.
Police initiated the search after discovering Turner was missing when they arrived at his Appalachia home on November 21st. This wasn’t a surprise visit intended for arrest; officers were simply returning to speak with him regarding the unfolding investigation. The previous day, they had visited his residence without attempting to detain him.
The search for Turner has been extensive, blanketing Wise County with drones soaring overhead, K-9 units tirelessly tracking scents, and officers pounding the pavement on foot. He was last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt, sweatpants, and glasses, a description that has been circulated widely in hopes of generating leads.
Almost immediately following the announcement of the investigation and Turner’s disappearance, Union High School acted swiftly. The coach’s profile was removed from the school’s website, effectively erasing his presence from the online staff directory. Now, only his son, Bailey Turner, a physical education teacher, remains listed under the ‘Turner’ surname.
School officials initially confirmed a staff member had been placed on administrative leave pending an external review of an allegation. Superintendent Mike Goforth emphasized this was standard procedure, not an indication of guilt. The statement deliberately avoided naming the staff member or referencing the specific charges.
A subsequent statement from the school district acknowledged the filing of charges against the staff member already on leave. The individual is now barred from school property and any contact with students. In 2023, Timothy Lee Meador, another teacher and coach at Union High School, pleaded guilty to indecent liberties with a child and served over a year in prison. Turner’s wife, Leslie Caudill Turner, vehemently denies the accusations against her husband. In a brief statement, she expressed her unwavering belief in his innocence and her desperate desire for his return, stating simply, “He’s a good dad and a good husband, and we want him home.”
