A powerful partnership has been forged to accelerate the Philippines’ digital transformation. The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) have officially joined forces, committing to a shared vision of a digitally empowered nation.
The agreement, formalized at the recent Financial Education Stakeholders’ Congress in Manila, signifies a major step forward in modernizing the country’s financial landscape. BSP Deputy Governor Bernadette Romulo-Puyat and DICT Secretary Henry Rhoel R. Aguda spearheaded the signing, solidifying a commitment to collaborative innovation.
This collaboration will directly bolster two key BSP initiatives: Paleng-QR Ph Plus and the BSP E-Learning Academy (BELA). The DICT will provide crucial digital infrastructure support, ensuring these programs reach their full potential and impact a wider audience.
Paleng-QR Ph, launched in 2022, is revolutionizing transactions in everyday life. By expanding electronic payments through QR codes to public markets, local transportation, and small businesses, it’s bringing financial inclusion to communities across the nation – a cornerstone of the National Strategy for Financial Inclusion.
Beyond physical marketplaces, the BSP is also investing in digital literacy. BELA, an online learning platform introduced last year, offers accessible courses on vital financial topics, from personal finance management to understanding the intricacies of economics and central banking.
The Financial Education Stakeholders’ Congress also saw the launch of the Credit Card Association of the Philippines’ “Credit Card Essentials E-Learning Module,” further enriching the educational resources available to the public. Simultaneously, the BSP unveiled an enhanced “Protect Your Money” campaign, emphasizing financial security and consumer awareness.
This multi-faceted approach, uniting government agencies and the private sector, underscores a unified commitment to empowering Filipinos with the knowledge and tools they need to navigate the evolving financial world. It’s a bold move towards a more inclusive and digitally advanced future.
