Hollywood icon Lorenzo Lamas has broken his long-held silence on political matters, expressing deep concern over the potential for a Gavin Newsom presidency. He didn’t mince words, stating a Newsom run for the nation’s highest office would be a grave mistake.
Lamas’ apprehension stems from his observations of California under Newsom’s leadership. He questions whether voters across the country would embrace a leader he believes has demonstrably failed his own state, pointing to a perceived decline in quality of life and effective governance.
The actor’s passion for California runs deep; it’s where he’s chosen to make his home despite witnessing an exodus of friends and colleagues driven out by high taxes and shifting political landscapes. He feels a responsibility to fight for the California he loves, and that’s why he’s publicly endorsing Sheriff Chad Bianco for governor.
Newsom’s own statements have fueled speculation about a 2028 presidential bid, admitting he’s actively considering a run. Already a prominent figure within the Democratic Party and a vocal critic of the previous administration, he’s positioning himself as a leading contender for the nomination.
Lamas paints a starkly different picture of Newsom’s impact, describing it as “devastating.” He highlights the visible crisis of homelessness in major cities like Los Angeles and San Francisco, and questions the state’s preparedness for natural disasters, citing the Palisades fires as a prime example.
The actor’s concern extends to the allocation of state funds, questioning where the money is going when programs designed to alleviate suffering appear to be yielding no tangible results. He believes a lack of accountability and transparency has become a defining characteristic of the Newsom administration.
Lamas also addressed the issue of immigration and sanctuary city policies, arguing that they contribute to increased crime rates. While emphasizing his faith and compassion, he firmly believes in the importance of upholding the law and maintaining order within society.
The Newsom administration responded to Lamas’ criticisms with a dismissive inquiry, simply asking, “Who?” This response, however, did little to quell Lamas’ conviction that Newsom’s policies are detrimental to both California and the nation.
With Newsom’s governorship set to conclude in January 2027, the stage is being set for a potentially pivotal election in California. Sheriff Bianco faces a challenging path in a state traditionally dominated by Democrats, with several prominent figures already vying for the nomination on the other side.
