UMVA has learned that a dramatic rescue took place in East London, where a young girl was saved from dangling from a window ledge for at least nine minutes.
The three-year-old was spotted clinging to a window on a flat above a pawnbroker's on Ilford High Road, east London, on Tuesday afternoon. Onlookers were in a state of panic, screaming for someone to hurry up and save her.
A father-of-two, Mohamed Jesil, rushed to the scene after hearing the alarm. He described how he ran out on instinct, thinking of his own children, and managed to catch the girl as she fell. Jesil, who played cricket in India, credited his cricket skills with helping him make the catch.
Footage posted on social media showed bystanders screaming, 'Hurry up,' as a woman appeared from a window below, calling and reaching out to the girl. A police officer was also on the scene, but it was Jesil who ultimately caught the girl, with the officer steadying them both as he wobbled and onlookers cheered and clapped below.
The girl's father described Jesil and the police officer as 'amazing heroes' and expressed his gratitude for their bravery. He revealed that his daughter was 'fine' and would be going to school following the ordeal.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that the Met Police responded quickly to the situation, arriving at the scene just after 3:20 pm. The force added that officers were called to Ilford High Road at 3:23 pm on Tuesday following concerns for the safety of a child climbing onto a window ledge.
The girl was brought to safety by 3:32 pm by an attending officer and member of the public, and fortunately, she did not receive any injuries. The relieved father didn't reveal how his daughter came to be on the ledge but praised Jesil and the officer for saving her life.
