The night unfolded with a startling display of entitlement after a traffic stop in East Greenwich, Rhode Island. Maria A. Bucci, a prominent figure in local Democratic circles, found herself facing a charge of driving under the influence on December 18th.
Police initiated the stop after observing telltale signs of impairment: severely bloodshot, glassy, and watery eyes, coupled with a strong smell of alcohol emanating from her vehicle. The routine encounter quickly devolved into a shocking outburst.
Almost immediately, Bucci reportedly demanded to know if the officers understood her position, repeatedly asking, “Do you know who I am?” It was a clear attempt to leverage her perceived status, a tactic that ultimately failed to sway the officers from performing their duty.
As officers attempted standard field sobriety tests, Bucci actively interfered, launching into a barrage of insults and probing personal questions about their ages. Her behavior escalated, revealing a growing frustration with the unfolding situation.
The situation took a disturbing turn when Bucci invoked race, claiming she would have been arrested if she were Black. She then attempted to use her political connections as a shield, demanding they contact her husband, the attorney general, and other influential figures.
Her desperation manifested in a chilling question directed at one of the officers: “What are you going to do, shoot me?” This was uttered as the officer attempted to demonstrate one of the sobriety tests, highlighting the escalating tension.
When placed under arrest for refusing to cooperate, Bucci’s anger exploded. She unleashed a string of vulgar insults, directing abusive language at the arresting officer, calling him a “dk” and a “loser,” and demanding the bodycam footage.
The tirade didn’t end with the arrest. At police headquarters, Bucci continued her relentless verbal assault, repeatedly calling the officer an “evil (expletive) piece of (expletive).” The intensity of her rage was deeply unsettling.
In a particularly disturbing moment, Bucci reportedly confessed to her children that she would have disowned them if they had chosen a career in law enforcement, declaring, “I’d kill them.” She further denigrated police officers, labeling them “only clowns.”
The booking process was met with further threats, with Bucci vowing retribution against the officers involved, stating, “I’m going to get you mother.” Despite the volatile outburst, she was released on a $1,000 bond, facing a misdemeanor DUI charge.
