Axel Disasi, once seemingly exiled from Chelsea, finds himself in a curious limbo. Initially cast aside, the French defender was relegated to a training group for players deemed surplus to requirements – a stark fall from grace for a recent acquisition.
However, Disasi’s professionalism hasn’t gone unnoticed. Coaches have been impressed by his dedication during training, and he’s even made a positive impact mentoring players in the club’s academy. This unexpected turnaround hasn’t altered the club’s desire to move him on, though.
Interest in Disasi is building from several clubs, including Roma, Lyon, and Paris FC. Roma appears to be the most eager, hoping to secure him on loan for the remainder of the season. Disasi himself reportedly favors a move outside of England.
A loan deal, however, is proving surprisingly difficult to orchestrate. FIFA regulations limit the number of players a club can loan to foreign teams – a maximum of six, excluding players developed within their own system. Chelsea has already exhausted this allowance.
The club’s existing loan arrangements, including Nicolas Jackson’s move to Bayern Munich and several players sent to Strasbourg, a club also owned by Chelsea’s ownership group, have filled those slots. This means any move for Disasi abroad must now be a permanent transfer.
A domestic loan remains a possibility if Chelsea were to recall one of their existing loanees. But for now, a permanent sale is the only viable path for Disasi to leave Stamford Bridge this January.
The situation leaves Chelsea facing a potential financial loss on a player who still has significant time remaining on his contract. Securing a reasonable transfer fee will be crucial, but finding a buyer willing to meet their valuation may prove challenging.
