SOMALIA-BRAINED TERRORIST GETS LIFE FOR PLOTTING NEW 9/11!

SOMALIA-BRAINED TERRORIST GETS LIFE FOR PLOTTING NEW 9/11!

Cholo Abdi Abdullah harbored a chilling ambition: to replicate the devastation of 9/11. This wasn’t idle fantasy, but a meticulously planned operation fueled by years of training with the terrorist group al-Shabaab, culminating in a life sentence for the aspiring hijacker.

Abdullah’s journey began in 2015, immersing himself within al-Shabaab’s network in Somalia. He endured rigorous military-style training, mastering weaponry and explosives. But this was merely a foundation for a far grander, more terrifying scheme – a plot that reached across continents and aimed to strike at the heart of America.

The “greater plan,” as al-Shabaab termed it, demanded a new skill set: piloting. Abdullah was directed to a flight school in the Philippines, his tuition covertly funded through al-Shabaab’s extortion network disguised as “taxation.” He dedicated himself to becoming a commercial pilot, driven by a chilling resolve to die in the attack.

Two pilots in a training setting, one in a cockpit wearing headphones and the other shaking hands in front of an aircraft.

For over two years, Abdullah relentlessly pursued his training, accumulating hundreds of hours in classrooms, simulators, and actual flight. He neared completion of his commercial pilot license, poised to exploit the skills he’d acquired for a horrific purpose. Every lesson, every exam, was a step closer to realizing al-Shabaab’s deadly vision.

His preparation extended beyond flight manuals. Abdullah obsessively researched security protocols, scrutinizing cockpit door vulnerabilities and even testing the feasibility of smuggling a weapon onto a plane. He studied past hijacking attempts, seeking inspiration in the unexpected tactics of 9/11, believing a pilot-led hijacking offered the greatest chance of success.

The chilling details of his planning emerged after his arrest. He researched specific transit visas to gain entry into the U.S., and even pinpointed potential targets, including the Bank of America Plaza in Atlanta, a towering 55-story skyscraper. His progress reports to his al-Shabaab handler detailed observations from flights, analyzing the best vantage points to control the flight deck.

Abdullah wasn’t operating in a vacuum. He remained in constant communication with his al-Shabaab handler, receiving “encouragement” after learning of a comrade’s death during the DusitD2 attack in Kenya. The handler used this loss as motivation, urging Abdullah to intensify his preparations and remain steadfast in his commitment.

Before he could finalize his plans and unleash his terror, authorities in the Philippines arrested Abdullah in July 2019. He was later transferred to U.S. custody in December 2020, where he faced justice for his conspiracy to commit mass murder. His life sentence ensures he will never realize his horrifying ambition.

The case underscores the far-reaching consequences of terrorist networks and the lengths to which they will go to strike at the United States. It serves as a stark reminder of the constant vigilance required to protect against such threats and the dedication of law enforcement in disrupting these deadly plots.
