New Year’s Eve took a dangerous turn on the Queen Elizabeth Way when reports flooded in about a pickup truck careening along on just three wheels. Witnesses described a shower of sparks as the vehicle headed towards Toronto, near St. Catharines, prompting a swift response from the Ontario Provincial Police.
The truck was finally stopped near Grimsby, and the driver, a 47-year-old man from Hamilton, was immediately taken into custody. Police allege his blood alcohol level was more than double the legal limit, painting a disturbing picture of reckless endangerment.
A photograph released by police revealed a chilling detail: a significant collection of empty Busch beer cans inside the vehicle. The situation escalated further upon investigation, revealing the driver had been without a valid license since 2001.
He now faces a series of serious charges, including impaired operation, dangerous driving, and driving while suspended. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of impaired driving.
Meanwhile, in Vaughan, a brazen carjacking unfolded in the early hours of Friday morning. A woman driving an Acura MDX was deliberately rear-ended by a dark-colored SUV at the intersection of Hilda Avenue and Pinewood Drive.
As the victim exited her vehicle to assess the damage, a suspect seized the opportunity, jumping into the Acura and speeding away alongside the waiting SUV. The entire incident appeared meticulously planned, suggesting a calculated and dangerous operation.
Police are currently searching for at least two male suspects, but have not yet released any descriptions. Investigators are appealing to the public for any information, including dashcam footage or surveillance recordings from the area.
The new year also brought a violent incident to Oshawa, where a stabbing at a rooming house left one man hospitalized. Durham Regional Police responded to an armed person call on January 1st, arriving at a residence near Ritson Road North and Adelaide Avenue East.
Officers discovered that a resident had assaulted and stabbed another, inflicting serious, though not life-threatening, injuries. The suspect was apprehended at the scene without further incident.
Nnamdi Enunwa, 38, of Oshawa, has been charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, and possession of a weapon for the purpose of committing a crime. He awaits a bail hearing as the investigation continues.
