CHAMPAGNE NIGHTMARE: Sparklers IGNITE Swiss Bar Inferno!

CHAMPAGNE NIGHTMARE: Sparklers IGNITE Swiss Bar Inferno!

A New Year’s celebration in the Swiss Alps transformed into a nightmare. At least 40 people lost their lives, and 119 others were injured, when a devastating fire ripped through the Le Constellation bar in Crans-Montana on Thursday night.

Investigators believe the tragedy was sparked by sparklers affixed to champagne bottles, ignited too close to the bar’s ceiling. The seemingly innocuous celebratory devices quickly escalated into a widespread inferno, engulfing the crowded venue in flames and smoke.

Authorities are meticulously examining whether the bar’s sound-dampening foam met safety regulations, and if the use of sparklers was even permitted. While sparklers are the primary focus, officials are exploring all possibilities as the investigation unfolds.

This photograph shows the entrance of the bar Le Constellation where a fire ripped through the venue during New Year's Eve celebrations in the Alpine ski resort town of Crans-Montana killing around 40 people and injuring more than 100 others, in Crans-Montana on Jan. 2, 2026.

The scene was one of unimaginable chaos. Witnesses described a desperate surge for the single exit, a narrow staircase leading from the basement nightclub. Panic-stricken revelers smashed windows, seeking any escape from the rapidly spreading flames.

Axel Clavier, a 16-year-old from Paris, recounted a terrifying struggle for air as he forced open a window with a table to escape. He survived, but learned that at least one of his friends had perished in the blaze, adding to the growing list of victims.

The aftermath is marked by heartbreaking uncertainty. Hundreds have taken to social media and created online accounts, desperately seeking information about missing loved ones. Families are now facing the agonizing wait for DNA identification, as the intensity of the fire has made traditional identification methods impossible.

First responders arriving on the scene were met with a scene of unimaginable horror. Gianni Campolo, a 19-year-old vacationer, described seeing people trapped and severely burned, a vision he says will haunt him forever. “I have seen horror,” he stated, “and I don’t know what else would be worse than this.”

Among the missing is Emanuele Galeppini, a 17-year-old Italian golfer with a promising international career. While officially listed as missing, the Italian Golf Federation has already announced his death, adding another layer of grief to the unfolding tragedy.

The tragedy has cast a dark shadow over Crans-Montana, a renowned ski resort nestled in the heart of the Alps. Known for its breathtaking views and world-class skiing, the town is now a scene of mourning and investigation.

Pope Leo expressed his condolences, praying for the souls of the deceased and offering strength to those suffering from loss and injury. Candles and flowers have formed an impromptu memorial near the bar, a testament to the lives tragically cut short.

Investigators are now considering potential criminal charges, including negligent arson, homicide, and bodily harm, should individuals be found responsible for the fire. The pursuit of justice is underway, but the pain and grief will linger for years to come.
