A man accused of planting pipe bombs near the nation’s political epicenters remains in custody, ordered held without bail by a federal judge. Despite acknowledging the constitutional right to presumed innocence, U.S. Magistrate Judge Matthew Sharbaugh determined no conditions of release could guarantee public safety. Prosecutors argued Brian Cole posed an ongoing threat, citing his documented purchases of bomb-making materials extending into August 2022. This history, they asserted, demonstrated a clear capacity and willingness to construct dangerous devices.
