CASINO HEIST: Nevada Thief Gets Justice After $714K Gamble Gone WRONG!

CASINO HEIST: Nevada Thief Gets Justice After $714K Gamble Gone WRONG!

A quiet life in Sun Valley, Nevada, shattered for Thomas Tonar, 61, as a custodial sentence descended – the price for a betrayal of trust and a theft totaling three-quarters of a million dollars. Tonar, a former employee of Dotty’s Casino, systematically siphoned funds from locations across the state, leaving a trail of financial discrepancies in his wake.

The initial alarm sounded in 2025 when suspicions arose at one of Tonar’s workplaces, prompting a call to the Sparks Police Department. Investigators quickly turned to security footage, and the evidence soon became undeniable: Tonar was deliberately stealing money, not from one location, but from multiple Dotty’s Casino offices.

A collaborative investigation, uniting detectives from Sparks and Reno, revealed the staggering scope of Tonar’s deception. Over time, he had embezzled a total of $714,713.59 from six different casinos, meticulously diverting funds for personal gain.

Realizing the net was closing in, Tonar attempted a desperate escape, fleeing Nevada and crossing into California with the stolen money. He believed he could disappear, but law enforcement agencies were already coordinating a pursuit.

The chase culminated in Sacramento, where Tonar was apprehended at a motel in a joint operation. Authorities recovered a significant portion of the stolen funds – $677,069 – alongside a disturbing discovery: three firearms in his possession.

Presiding Judge Barry Breslow delivered the sentence, holding Tonar accountable for four counts of embezzlement exceeding $100,000 and two counts below that threshold. The punishment: a prison term ranging from eight to thirty years, a stark consequence for his calculated crimes.

The case stands as a chilling reminder of the vulnerabilities within even the most seemingly secure establishments. It highlights the dedication of law enforcement in pursuing justice, even when the perpetrator attempts to vanish across state lines.

In a separate incident, a disturbing hotel room crime at Bally’s Twin River resort led to the arrest of three individuals. This case involved intimidation and threats to a patron with a knife, resulting in multiple charges for the man and two women involved, further illustrating the darker side of the gaming world.
