A chilling image has emerged in the investigation of the murders of Spencer and Monique Tepe, a young Ohio couple found dead in their home. Police have released surveillance footage of a “person of interest” captured walking near the Tepe residence during the estimated time of the crime.
The grainy footage, taken in the early hours of December 30th, shows a figure moving slowly through a snow-covered alley adjacent to the Tepe’s North 4th Street home. The individual is cloaked in a dark, hooded coat and light-colored pants, their head bowed and hands hidden in pockets.
Detectives believe the couple was brutally murdered sometime between 2:00 and 5:00 a.m. upstairs in their home. The released video places this person of interest in the immediate vicinity during that critical window, intensifying the search for answers.
The tragic discovery unfolded after Spencer Tepe failed to appear for work at Athens Dental Depot, raising alarm with a coworker. Repeated attempts to reach him went unanswered, prompting a welfare check that initially found the house silent.
A subsequent return to the home, spurred by reports from coworkers and a friend who believed they heard children inside, revealed a horrifying scene. Spencer Tepe’s body was found near a bed, and Monique was discovered with fatal gunshot wounds.
Remarkably, the couple’s two young children – a one-year-old boy and a four-year-old girl – were found unharmed inside the house, along with the family dog. They are now in the care of relatives, shielded from the unfolding tragedy.
Investigators have confirmed that Spencer Tepe suffered multiple gunshot wounds, while Monique was shot at least once in the chest. The absence of a recovered weapon and the lack of forced entry have deepened the mystery surrounding the crime.
Authorities have definitively ruled out a murder-suicide, focusing their efforts on identifying and apprehending the individual seen in the surveillance footage. The Franklin County Coroner’s Office has officially classified both deaths as homicides caused by gunshot wounds.
Spencer and Monique Tepe, married for five years, are remembered by loved ones as dedicated parents who had built a life centered around family and affection. Their sudden and violent deaths have left a community reeling.
Police are actively pursuing numerous leads generated by the public, meticulously following up on every tip received. The investigation remains ongoing as detectives work tirelessly to bring justice to the Tepe family.
