Newly released transcripts reveal a chillingly detached account from the individual responsible for the tragic shootings at Brown University and the murder of an MIT professor. Investigators uncovered the videos on an electronic device found in a storage facility linked to Claudio Manuel Neves Valente, a Portuguese national identified as the perpetrator.
The recordings, originally in Portuguese and subsequently translated, detail a meticulously planned attack. Valente described the violence as the culmination of years of preparation, stating, “It’s done. It was… six semesters. I had already planned this for a little more.” This wasn’t a spontaneous act, but a deliberate and calculated undertaking.
While identifying Brown University as the primary target, Valente offered no clear explanation for his actions, leaving authorities continuing to investigate a motive for both the campus shooting and the separate killing of MIT professor Nuno Loureiro. The senseless violence claimed the lives of Brown students Ella Cook, 19, and Muhammad Aziz Umurzokov, 18, and left nine others wounded.
Strikingly, the transcripts reveal a complete lack of remorse. Valente, speaking from a storage unit in Salem, New Hampshire, explicitly refused to apologize, stating, “I am not going to apologize, because during my lifetime no one sincerely apologized to me.” He dismissed any suggestion of mental illness, declaring, “that’s all bull---- excuses.”
In a bizarre turn, Valente even agreed with a past assessment by former President Donald Trump, acknowledging being labeled an “animal.” He stated, “I am an animal, and he is also… I have no hatred towards America.” He framed the attacks not as driven by animosity, but as a matter of “opportunity.”
The recordings demonstrate a disturbing tendency to blame the victims, criticizing their actions during the shooting as “kind of stupid.” Valente also displayed a profound indifference to public perception, stating, “I don’t give a d--- about how you judge me or what you think of me,” while simultaneously claiming disinterest in fame.
Throughout the transcript, Valente repeatedly focused on a personal injury sustained during the attacks – a severe eye injury. He described being hit by a “shell round” that “bounced” into his eye, a detail he repeatedly emphasized. This self-focus further underscores his lack of empathy for his victims.
Authorities confirmed Valente died by suicide two days before his body was discovered in the storage unit. They have stated there is no ongoing public safety threat related to the shootings, but the investigation into the full scope of his motives continues. The released transcripts offer a haunting glimpse into the mind of a perpetrator devoid of remorse.
