A chilling scene unfolded in Minneapolis as an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent fired a fatal shot through the window of an SUV, striking the female driver. The incident, captured on video, occurred during a protest against ongoing ICE raids, instantly igniting a firestorm of controversy and grief.
The victim has been identified as Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old woman remembered by her mother, Donna Ganger, as “one of the kindest people” she’d ever known. Ganger, reeling from the news, expressed disbelief and fear, stating her daughter was “probably terrified” in her final moments. She vehemently denied Renee was involved in any clashes with agents.
Witnesses and video footage suggest Good was using her vehicle as a barrier, positioned across the road to impede a large-scale deportation operation. Agents surrounded the SUV, demanding she exit, their voices escalating with urgency. As she attempted to drive away, a single agent discharged three shots.
The SUV sped forward, ultimately crashing into a telephone pole as horrified activists screamed. The immediate aftermath was chaos, with a visible bloody airbag and escalating tensions between protesters and law enforcement. The scene was raw, visceral, and deeply unsettling.
President Trump initially described the video as “horrible to watch,” but quickly offered a starkly different narrative. He claimed the driver was “very disorderly” and had “viciously” attempted to run over an officer, suggesting the shooting was an act of self-defense. He also stated the officer was recovering in hospital.
However, this account was swiftly and forcefully challenged by Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, who, after viewing the footage, dismissed it as “bullsh.” He condemned the attempt to justify the shooting and accused the federal agents of creating chaos and distrust within the city.
Department of Homeland Security officials echoed the President’s version, labeling the incident an act of “domestic terrorism” and claiming the driver had weaponized her vehicle. This assertion further fueled the growing outrage and deepened the divide over the events.
Mayor Frey didn’t hold back in his criticism, delivering a blunt message to ICE: “Get the f* out of Minneapolis.” He accused the federal crackdown of ripping families apart and sowing chaos, culminating in a tragic loss of life. His words reflected the city’s mounting anger and frustration.
This shooting represents a dramatic escalation in a series of increasingly aggressive immigration enforcement operations across the country. It is, tragically, at least the fifth death linked to such operations since 2024, leaving communities on edge and demanding answers.
