SHAPIRO ON NOTICE: GOP MEGA-FORCE Declares WAR!

Pennsylvania State Senator Doug Mastriano has announced he will not contend for the governorship in 2026, delivering a scathing critique of the state’s current political landscape in a powerfully worded open letter. The decision, confirmed late Wednesday, despite fervent support from the conservative base, unexpectedly opens the door for State Treasurer Stacy Garrity to pursue the Republican nomination.

Mastriano first gained widespread recognition as a vocal opponent of the COVID-19 lockdowns imposed by former Governor Tom Wolf. His resistance sparked numerous legal battles, often facing challenges from then-Attorney General Josh Shapiro and members of Wolf’s administration, including Health Secretary Rachel Levine and Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding. These confrontations ignited a movement that resonated deeply with those feeling restricted by the pandemic measures.

A decorated veteran of the Gulf War, including participation in the intense Battle of 73 Easting – a pivotal tank engagement – Mastriano attributes his decision to a higher calling. “God has not called us to run for governor in this season,” he stated, leaving the door open for potential future bids in 2028 or 2030. He insists, however, that this is not a retreat, but a refocusing of efforts.

His “Open Letter to the People of Pennsylvania” didn’t shy away from direct criticism, targeting both Governor Shapiro and those within his own party. Mastriano asserts that the “Walk As Free People” movement, born from the lockdown resistance, remains a potent force. He believes it’s a movement rooted in fundamental principles of faith, freedom, and the well-being of Pennsylvanians.

Since the height of the lockdowns, Mastriano and fellow lawmakers have actively engaged with communities across the state, holding rallies and protests from the small town of Jerome to the steps of the Capitol in Harrisburg. Supporters, often identifiable by “Walk as Free People” or “Mastriano’s Army” apparel, even organized gatherings in townships that resisted lockdown measures.

Despite his loss to Shapiro in the 2022 gubernatorial race, Mastriano points to record-breaking Republican turnout – the highest since 1962 – and the collection of nearly 29,000 ballot signatures as evidence of the movement’s strength. His supporters believed he was poised to become the first Republican gubernatorial candidate to win without significant party intervention since Governor Dick Thornburgh.

Mastriano’s letter also expressed deep reservations about the Republican Party’s internal dynamics, rejecting what he characterized as “backroom deals” and “premature endorsements.” He argued that future candidates must earn the support of voters directly, rather than relying on establishment backing. This stance underscored his commitment to a grassroots approach.

The senator leveled sharp criticism at Shapiro, describing his administration as a “machine… corrupt and riddled with scandal,” fueled by outside influences who lack understanding and respect for Pennsylvania’s values. He questioned Shapiro’s leadership capabilities and even suggested Vice President Kamala Harris had reservations about him as a potential running mate.

Mastriano also condemned what he perceived as biased media coverage, accusing outlets of actively attempting to dismantle the “Walk As Free People” movement while offering Shapiro a largely unchallenged platform. He maintains that the movement’s success is demonstrated by its role in the election of Senator David McCormick and the re-election of President Donald Trump.

In response to Mastriano’s announcement, the Shapiro campaign dismissed his departure and immediately targeted Garrity, labeling her an “election denier” and linking her to the events of January 6th. The Pennsylvania Democrats suggested the state is now “stuck” with another extremist candidate, highlighting the intensifying political battle ahead.
