OMAR BARRED: DHS SHUTS DOWN Radical Congresswoman's ICE Visit!

A surprising scene unfolded in Minneapolis on Saturday as Representative Ilhan Omar and other Minnesota lawmakers found themselves escorted from an Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility. The visit, intended as a routine exercise of congressional oversight, quickly turned into a confrontation over access and policy.

Omar, accompanied by Representative Angie Craig, entered the Whipple Building believing they were fulfilling a fundamental duty outlined in the Constitution. Initial authorization was granted by a long-standing official familiar with the lawmakers’ right to inspect federal facilities, a right stemming from their Article I powers.

The welcome was short-lived. Shortly after being admitted, two officials arrived with a stark message: their invitation was revoked, and further access was denied. The abrupt reversal, Omar explained, stemmed from a newly implemented rule issued by the Trump administration.

This new rule demands at least one week’s notice before any lawmaker can enter an ICE facility. It’s not the first attempt to restrict congressional access; a previous, similar order was struck down by a federal judge who ruled that federal law guarantees unrestricted access to facilities receiving congressional funding.

During their brief time inside, the lawmakers managed to question officials about conditions for detainees, specifically regarding hygiene and length of stay. Omar characterized the responses as deeply troubling, alleging officials minimized the duration detainees were held within the facility.

Federal officials defend the new policy, claiming it adheres to federal law because the facility’s funding originates from a specific appropriation – referred to as the “Big Beautiful Bill” – rather than direct congressional allocations. This distinction, they argue, allows for the imposed restrictions.

However, the Department of Homeland Security offered a more pointed explanation for the lawmakers’ removal. A spokesperson stated the representatives entered the facility with what appeared to be a deliberate intention to locate ICE officers, fueled by a pre-existing belief about their whereabouts.

The spokesperson emphasized that the decision to ask the lawmakers to leave was made to ensure the safety of both detainees and staff, and to comply with existing court orders and agency policies requiring advance notification of congressional visits. The incident raises serious questions about the balance between congressional oversight and executive authority.
