LA protesters swarm U-Haul truck that drove through anti-Iranian regime gathering, driver arrested

A tense confrontation unfolded in Los Angeles on Sunday as a U-Haul truck drove through a crowd of protesters demonstrating against the Iranian regime. The incident quickly escalated into a chaotic scene, culminating in the driver’s arrest after a physical altercation with demonstrators.

Calor Madanescht, 48, is now in custody, suspected of reckless driving, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Footage from the scene reveals a surging crowd surrounding the truck, voices raised in protest as the driver remained behind the wheel.

The situation rapidly intensified as protesters swarmed the vehicle. One individual climbed onto the hood, forcefully stomping on the windshield, while others thrust Iranian flagpoles through an open window, appearing to strike the driver inside.

A banner affixed to the truck, boldly proclaiming “NO SHAH. NO REGIME. USA: DON’T REPEAT 1953. NO MULLAH,” was ripped down amidst the escalating tension. Attempts by the driver to exit the truck were met with resistance, as protesters physically blocked the door.

Police eventually forced their way through the dense crowd, taking Madanescht into custody at approximately 3:30 p.m. near Veteran Avenue and the Federal Building in Westwood. The scene was one of raw emotion and palpable anger.

Authorities confirmed that one protester was struck by the vehicle, but thankfully, reported no significant injuries. Paramedics treated the individual at the scene, and no one required hospitalization.

The U-Haul truck was impounded and thoroughly searched, but police stated that nothing of major significance was found inside. Videos circulating online depict the truck moving quickly through the crowd, with individuals clinging to the side and desperately trying to get the driver’s attention.

The incident has drawn strong condemnation, with some groups labeling it a violent act. Calls for a thorough investigation and accountability are growing louder in the wake of the confrontation.

This event occurred against the backdrop of widespread unrest in Iran, where protests initially sparked by economic concerns have evolved into a direct challenge to the nation’s leadership. The demonstrations have spread across the country, fueled by deep-seated discontent.

Reports from the U.S.-based Human Rights Activists News Agency indicate a staggering number of casualties, with 583 people reportedly killed in Iran since the unrest began just two weeks ago. The situation remains volatile and deeply concerning.
