FRIDAYS IS DYING: See If YOUR Local Spot Just Vanished!

FRIDAYS IS DYING: See If YOUR Local Spot Just Vanished!

A wave of closures has swept through TGI Fridays locations across the United Kingdom, leaving 456 employees facing uncertainty. Sixteen restaurants have permanently darkened their doors, marking a significant shift for the once-ubiquitous American dining chain.

The closures aren’t a complete collapse, however. A restructuring deal managed to salvage 33 restaurants and, crucially, 1,384 jobs. The future of the brand now rests on a smaller, more focused footprint within the UK.

The impacted restaurants spanned the country, from Ashton Under Lyne in Greater Manchester to Aberdeen Beach in Scotland. Other locations lost include Doncaster, Staines, Stevenage, Walsall, Bournemouth, Telford, Reading, Coventry, Crawley, Nottingham, Sheffield, Stratford, and Braintree.

The fate of these locations was sealed after the group entered administration, a process allowing for restructuring and potential sale. The closures represent a painful but necessary step in a broader turnaround plan.

Phil Broad, global president of TGI Fridays, expressed optimism despite the closures. He believes the restructuring provides the “best outcome” for the business, allowing it to build a “strong platform for success and growth.”

Broad emphasized the enduring appeal of the TGI Fridays experience, promising continued “bold flavours, welcoming atmosphere, and high-energy dining.” The goal is to revitalize the brand while staying true to its core identity.

Ryan Grant, managing director at Interpath and joint administrator, echoed this sentiment, describing the deal as a “pivotal step” in the turnaround. He acknowledged the challenges facing the hospitality industry but highlighted the stability this restructuring provides.

The closures reflect a broader trend of difficulty within the UK hospitality sector, grappling with economic pressures and changing consumer habits. TGI Fridays’ restructuring is a bid to navigate these challenges and secure a viable future.
