A 39-year-old woman is facing a mounting list of charges connected to a series of brazen break-ins that plagued businesses in Markham and Vaughan last fall. The investigation began with a single incident – an overnight raid on an electronics store near Markham Road and 14th Avenue in October 2025.
Police reports detail how multiple individuals forced their way through the store’s rear entrance, making off with a significant quantity of electronics. While one suspect was quickly apprehended on January 6th, authorities soon discovered this arrest was just the tip of the iceberg.
Investigators painstakingly pieced together evidence, linking the arrested woman to a total of nine commercial break-ins. Four occurred in Vaughan, and another four targeted businesses in Markham, all within the concentrated timeframe of September to November 2025.
Michelle Wright, currently without a fixed address, now faces a formidable array of charges. These include eight counts of break-and-enter with intent, eight counts of possessing break-and-enter tools, nine counts of probation violation, two counts of driving while prohibited, and one count of possessing stolen property.
This isn’t Wright’s first encounter with the law in connection to similar crimes. Back in February 2023, she and a 50-year-old man, Charles Duguay, were arrested following a string of break-ins at convenience stores and jewelry shops across York Region and Toronto.
During that earlier arrest, police recovered two stolen vehicles, a cache of stolen goods, and illegal drugs. The outcome of the charges stemming from those incidents remains unclear, adding another layer to this complex case.
Two additional suspects remain at large, and police are actively seeking information that could lead to their capture. Anyone with knowledge of these break-ins is urged to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.
