Alejandro Rosales Castillo, appearing years younger than his 27 years, now faces the full weight of the law. After nine years evading capture, the fugitive once prominently featured on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted list was apprehended in Mexico this past Friday.
The story began with a fractured relationship. Castillo and Truc Quan “Sandy” Ly Le met while working at a Charlotte, North Carolina restaurant, their connection blossoming into romance. But by the summer of 2016, their love had turned sour, setting in motion a tragic chain of events.
On August 15, 2016, Le’s vehicle was discovered abandoned at a Phoenix bus station. The following day, detectives made a horrifying discovery: Le’s body, found in a North Carolina forest, a single gunshot wound to the head ending her life.
Castillo wasn’t the only one to flee. Another individual involved, Ahmia Feaster, also sought refuge in Mexico, eventually surrendering to authorities in Aguas Calientes in 2017. The case quickly gained notoriety, fueled by extensive media coverage, including a segment on “In Pursuit with John Walsh” in 2020.
Castillo, a U.S. citizen, was added to the FBI’s most wanted list in 2017, marking a significant escalation in the manhunt. His capture represents a culmination of years of relentless pursuit by law enforcement agencies.
The arrest is part of a recent trend. Over the past year, five individuals on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted list have been brought to justice. FBI Director Kash Patel emphasized this success wasn’t accidental, attributing it to strong support for law enforcement initiatives.
“This is outstanding work,” Patel stated, acknowledging the collaborative efforts of teams in Charlotte, Mexico, and various federal and local partners. The focus now shifts to delivering justice for Sandy Ly Le’s grieving family.
Castillo’s apprehension coincides with heightened tensions and assertive actions by the U.S. government. Recent events, including the capture of a key MS-13 gang leader and reported actions against individuals in Venezuela, suggest a more proactive approach to cross-border crime.
Extradition proceedings for Castillo are underway, promising a swift return to the United States to face charges. Meanwhile, another fugitive was brought in closer to home.
In Chicago, Antonio Stigler, 32, was arrested Friday morning at a suburban residence. He had been wanted in connection with the brutal October 2024 murder of Yasmeena Harris, a pregnant woman tragically shot and killed in Riverdale.
Riverdale Police Chief Mark Kozeluh praised the FBI Chicago Field Office for their “critical role” in locating and apprehending Stigler. The arrest underscores the power of coordinated law enforcement efforts and a shared commitment to public safety.
Stigler now faces charges of first-degree murder, bringing a measure of hope to a community shaken by Harris’s senseless death. These arrests signal a determined effort to hold those responsible for violent crimes accountable, no matter how long they remain on the run.
